A few people have expressed an interest in seeing my entries to club competitions this year and it's quite useful for me to have a reminder of photos already used when preparing to go through it all again next year... so here they are! For those not used to the joys of camera club competitions, images are generally scored out of 20 points and the highest cumulative score on the night tends to be the winner. A handful of competitions work on a placings system. There are trophies for best overall Projected and Printed images and most of the competition results feed points into these. There have been almighty problems with this this year and the trophy awarding has completely gone to pot but the less said on that the better! I will elaborate a little further later in this post though!

Salisbury was also my entry to the end of year 'Digital Image of the Year' competition though it did not do as well on that occasion!

The judge felt this one wasn't 'real' and that that toadstool was 'probably Photoshopped in'. I can assure you it wasn't, it was taken on the banks of Lake Buttermere on a beautiful day, after an eagle-eyed Henry spotted it for me!

This was taken outside La Palau de la Musica Catalana in Barcelona. Like everyone else I'd been taking photos of the stunning architecture but when I turned around I saw this gathering. The little boy was positioned so perfectly!

Having sat up for a large amount of the night photographing the Lunar Eclipse a few months ago, I felt that I needed to do something with the images to make it worthwhile! I decided to overlay the images in Photoshop and turn them into a Panorama for this competition.

Dorothy Tarry Landscape Print - Judged by Patricia Begley
This competition has caused so many problems with the scoring system it's proving to be a nightmare. On the night, three photographs were awarded top marks (20), including my Mountain Stream below. Out of the three, another (fabulous!) photograph was awarded the judge's overall winner. This competition has now been re-scored about three times, with the other photographer being awarded the trophy for having the winning image, which would seem fair to me, then this changing and the trophy being awarded to me for having the best cumulative score (which made me feel awkward to be perfectly honest!). The biggest problem is that however they choose to score this changes the top of the table for the overall 'Best Projected Images' competition. It's either going to go my way or it isn't... I strongly suspect that some people will be pushing for the latter! I am resigned to 'what will be will be'! It's actually put me off the competition element of club photography completely. It's not a pleasant experience at the moment I must confess!!

I did definitely win the trophy for this one, which does please me as it was my personal favourite photo of the year by miles!
Laggan Sands, Loch BuieScore: First Place
Those are my main competition entries from this year. I won't bore everyone with my Burford and Bampton Phototrek images as I really didn't make much of an effort with that one this time... I was very much lacking in inspiration at that point!
Here's to next year! Perhaps I should put on my teacher's hat and offer up a few Maths and English lessons to help with scoring and rule reading and writing for next year?! (and yes, that is tongue in cheek... well... sort of!!!) ;)
Merry Christmas One and All!!
